Electricity
Dalton Utilities provides the lowest residential utility rates in the nation and highly competitive rates for business and industry. The utility owns interest in two nuclear and two coal-fired power plants. Hydroelectric power is purchased from Southeastern Power Administration (SEPA), and blocks of power are purchased from Southern Wholesale Energy to meet peak demand. Areas within the business community are served by Georgia Power and North Georgia Electrical Membership Corporation, as well as Dalton Utilities, offering business owners a chance to competitively bid their initial electrical service. Currently, Dalton Utilities serves 14,543 electric customers, Georgia Power serves 6,841 and North Georgia Electric Membership Corporation serves 96,000 statewide.
Natural Gas
Dalton Utilities serves 9,000 natural gas customers throughout Dalton and portions of Whitfield, Gordon and Floyd counties, making it the largest municipal gas system in the state of Georgia. The local natural gas distribution system is connected to two interstate natural gas pipelines - Southern Natural Gas (a division of El Paso Gas) and East Tennessee Natural Gas (a division of Duke Energy).
Water
The local utility serves 34,495 water customers, who together consume approximately 37.4 million gallons of water a day. The utility maintains drought contingency storage (2.54 billon gallons) to meet water needs for a two-month period in severe drought conditions.

Wastewater
The local wastewater collection system is comprised of over 200 miles of pipe, receiving both household and industrial wastewater. The system serves 11,577 customers and treats 30-40 million gallons per day. Treated wastewater is recycled through natural means at one of the nation's largest land application sites, a 9,200-acre facility considered a model within the waste management industry.
